For a book that was supposed to be the best book to use for breast cancer, Dr. Susan Love Breast Book is lagging behind in many important areas. I'm not saying that one should not read it. It May Help to know what to expect ahead of time, though.
The first problem is obvious. This, too book covers basic anatomy and development of breast tissue, instead of information that women who read the most books trebate.Činjenica is, nobody wants to wade through a bunch of non-essential materials to find answers to your most important questions. Especially when a life hangs in the balance.
Secondly, Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book Last published in 2005. Certainly the survival and mortality statistics the author quotes are outdated by now. In cases of chemotherapy, antibodies, and hormonal therapy, progress is often implemented much faster than five years duration. Accordingly, statistics on the ten-year survival rate were particularly suspect.
As if this were not enough, the author devotes only one paragraph in a very sensitive issue of interpretation of data, so that readers can relate to their situation! How can I possibly move forward in their fight when they are ill-prepared and fear?
The second flaw with the book is that there is too much detail about a rare complication of surgery and recurrence. Instead of focusing on the facts on which to base decisions, Dr. Love belabors number of lives lost, and a medical ailment. Once again, superfluous debate is where the answers are the most desperatley needed.
Even when Dr. Love has some good information for readers about how dangerous chemotherapy, radiation and surgery can be, it is still recommended wholeheartedly. Although she says herself that 2-9% of non-metastatic women experience the benefits of chemotherapy and that these three treatment options to deal devastating and often permanent side effects!
is not the type of person I want to give me advice on issues that directly affect my health and superior quality of life. Do not forget that the doctor, after all, and May have a detached way of evaluating treatment plans.
Not that you can get some good information from the book. Dr. Susan Love Breast Book has a respectable amount of material on breast cancer. However, most women need the right advice on what to do next, what will happen next, and how to detect (and prevent) the repetition.
